About the Course


This 8-week intensive training course is intended for physicians and other health care providers working in tropical medicine, travelers’ health and migrant health.  Guest faculty from our international affiliate sites are expected to contribute to the course, as well as from many nationally-known, non-governmental organizations based in Minnesota, such as the Center for Victims of Torture, Minnesota International Health Volunteers, American Refugee Committee and others.

This certificate preparation course is accredited by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH) and prepares participants to qualify for the biannually-offered exam leading to a Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health.  

Selected Features of the Global Health Course:

  • Skills for providing health care in a global village.
  • Focus on global health by systems (cardiology, GI, oncology, etc.)
  • Laboratory component taught by CDC staff.
  • Content emphasizes case-based lectures and practical knowledge for practicing clinicians and public health professionals.
  • Covers all core required topics for ASTMH certificate exam.
  • Special focus on immigrant and migrant cross-cultural health care.
