Welcome to the UMN/CDC Online Global Health Course
The Online Global Health Course is offered by the University of Minnesota (UMN) Department of Medicine, in collaboration with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and multiple local, national and international partners. This rigorous self-study curriculum is intended for physicians and other health care providers, administrators and public health officials interested in tropical medicine, travelers’ health, immigrant and refugee health, health care in resource-poor areas, or in responding to humanitarian emergencies. With a strong clinical focus, the entire course includes more than 250 hours of lectures from more than 170 faculty experts, offering important knowledge and skills not easily acquired through traditional education.
Our Goal
The primary goal of the Online Global Health Course is to provide accessible educational material to individuals concerned about and motivated to decrease health disparities that disproportionately affect disenfranchised populations.
For those who enroll in the entire Course, another goal is to ensure that participants gain sufficient medical knowledge and expertise to pass the Certificate of Knowledge in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers” Health (CTropMed®) examination offered biannually by the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).
Each module of the course is eligible for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ and Continuing Education Units.
We also offer an In-Person Global Health Course at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus. In order to meet the requirements needed to sit for the ASTMH Exam, participants need to complete all seven Online Global Health Course modules and a minimum of two In-Person Global Health Course modules. We now have an alternate option to complete the in-person component of our course.
